Whoa. I am officially creeped out.
There I was. Enjoying a nice little travel assignment. Those nice nurses offered me a room to hang out in while the time passes. Sounds like a great idea.
They sent me to the fourth floor. The very empty and very dark 4th floor.
The floor that used to be a convent. And is now a locked unit.
They gave me two keys. One to open the door to the convent once I got off the elevators. And one to get into my room.
Ummm.... Doesn't this seem more like a locked psych unit? Meh. I pulled out the key and went in anyway. Don't forget that behind me this whole time is this....
An empty hallway. If you've ever spent much time in a hospital- you know- the cold hallways and empty rooms are... creepy.
Inside the convent...
My room is at the very end of this hallway. In the darkest part. Past the light. Thank goodness for that little bit of light.
Then my room.
Decent at first. But now it looks like a possible murder scene.
I calmly settled myself at the desk. Decided not to think about it. And got to some serious www surfing.
See that little window off to the left there? Where the blinds are broken away and there is newspaper pressed against the glass?
It opened. Suddenly. And all by itself.
A metal framed window that you have to LIFT to open. It slid UP.
I, of course, FROZE. Then freaked out in my head. Then calmly pushed the window shut. Then sat back down and stared at that window. Then was sure I saw it slowly creeping open again. Then I talked myself off my mental ledge. Then my beeper went off. I gathered my belongings. And got ready to calmly take my exit (knowing full well I was not returning once I got off this fourth floor terror house). When I opened the door I saw this...
No more light. I calmly let the door to my room close. And then I ran. I ran to the locked door. Ran to the elevator. Where a window was open and I was sure it wasn't before. That elevator took far too long.
And here I sit enjoying the brightly lit lobby and it's glorious fluorescent lighting. Amen.
